YogMod - a recreation of the VoxelBox Scientific Texture Pack
In late 2012, the Yogscast began a new, long-running series on their YouTube channel: YogLabs. This series was a mod showcase series that had a narrative running through it. YogLabs itself was built utilizing a texture pack called TheVoxelBox Scientific, which as any Yognau(gh)t will know, made some very strange texturing decisions, such as turning pumpkins into lighting blocks and certain ores into circuits and bricks. This didn't matter within the scope of the series, but for any fan who wanted to build their own lab using those textures, they quickly ran into a problem: these textures overrode the vanilla blocks, meaning that playing standard Minecraft in the same world was difficult without constantly changing texture packs.
How I Addressed This
I decided to code a small mod that would host these textures separately from the main vanilla ones, enabling users to play Minecraft as it was intended as well as building a custom lab. From 2015 to 2019, it was an internal mod called NosLabs Custom Blocks, but in mid-2019, I decided to change the name of the mod, and in order to make it public, I reached out to Lewis for permission. He granted it in an email reply he sent to me in July 2019, and a few months later, I made YogMod publicly available on CurseForge. It remained creative-only for nearly four more years, but in October 2023, I finally decided to make YogMod be survival-playable, implementing crafting recipes and taking advantage of the underuse of the smithing table in Minecraft 1.19 as a conversion system. While I will need to change this for 1.20, the mod is now playable in a survival format on 1.19.
High Definition Textures
YogMod ships, by default, with the low-resolution textures featured in the early YogLabs episodes. The high definition textures are also available for each version of YogMod. It is recommended that users utilize the high definition textures alongside the Sphax PureBDcraft resource pack.
