Friend Highlighter is a simple solution to keeping track of your friends in game, whether that be other players, or pets, by highlighting them through blocks.
If you have the entitiy culling mod enabled, mobs will not be highlighted through blocks. Disable entity culling for this mod to work properly :)
This mod is similar to Player Highlighter and Entity Outliner, however it was developed independently and will not all have the same features and functionalities.
Any entity can be highlighted, whether it has a name or not; this includes players, animals, monsters, items, projectiles, item frames, etc. In other words, this mod is really an entity locator.
This is a client side mod for fabric 1.19.2, 1.19.4, 1.20.x, and 1.21 and can be used on any server. There is no server-side component to this mod (don't need to install it on a server to use it).
If you want this mod to support another version of minecraft, let me know. Either join the discord below, or leave a comment on this page. I am actively supporting this mod and can port to other versions.
Disclaimer: This will highlight entities through blocks. This is going to be considered hacking/cheating on most servers. This is a ESP (extra sensory perception) hack / player x-ray, use with caution. I do not condone or encourage the use of this mod to gain an unfair advantage or break rules. This mod was created to help me keep track of my friends on a co-op multiplayer server where I got permission to do so, and to make some things in my single player worlds easier. While this mod is undetectable, servers can ban you if they find you using this mod.
What does it do?
It duplicates how the glowing potion effect works--it highlights entities through blocks--but gives you precise control over what entities are highlighted, when they are highlighted, and how. This mod let's you highlight any entity using its name (doesn't need a nametag; "Pig" or "Iron Sword" work too).
It also makes nametags visible from further way and through blocks, and has the option to highlight invisible mobs.
Simply add an entity you want to highlight with /fh add {entity name}, and press H to enable the highlighter to see the entity through blocks.
Some Use Cases
- highlight your friends on mining trips so you don't get split up
- highlight your dog so he's never in danger again
- highlight mobs in your mob farm to check rates/if it is working without having to go in
- highlighting Zombies to find the source of the annoying zombie sounds in your walls
In slightly more cheaty scenarios:
Some cool uses of the mod I use sometimes in single player! It can be really handy.
Die and lose your stuff?
Type in the names of your items and they will be highlighted (Stick, Apple, Iron Sword, etc).
Trying to get enderpearls?
Head into the nether and find a warped forest biome. Highlight enderman to easily see them through walls and quickly get the pearls you need.
Can't remember where you put your chests/furnaces underground?
Place down an item frame somewhere you want to bookmark. Item Frames are entities, so you can highlight them and easily find them in complex cave tunnels.
How to use:
In this mod there is a Friends List. This is the list that has the names of the entities/players you want to highlight. If you want to highlight an entity, you simply add it to the list. This list is not shared with anybody, and nobody but you can see it.
There are two main ways to add names to your friends list. There is a chat interface, and if you have cloth config and modmenu installed, there is a GUI interface as well.
Chat Interface and Commands:
Every command in this mod starts with /fh (fh for friend highlighter).
Below I will outline each command and its usage. Any arguments in {curly braces} are optional.
Add
/fh add [name] {color} {only_players} {outline_friend}
This command adds a name to your friends list.
name: the name of the entity you want to highlight. Make sure capitalization, spelling, and whitespace (spaces) match the name exactly. If the name contains spaces, surround the name in quotation marks: /fh add "Henry the Dog". The mod will give you suggestions from nearby mobs and players online.
{color}: this is optional, if you don't add a color, the friend will be highlighted in the default color which you can change in settings. If you add a color, the friend will be highlighted in that color. There are some built in colors, but you can also use hex codes to create custom colors. Highlighting Tim in a nice green would look like: /fh add Tim #3DA720
{only_players}: this is optional, it will be set to the default, which is initially allEntities but can be changed in settings. If set to onlyPlayers then the mod will only highlight PLAYERS with that name, and not other entities. If set to allEntities (the default) then the mod will highlight anything with that name.
{outline_friend}: this is optional, by default it is set to outlineFriend. This enables or disables the friend from being highlighted when highlighting is enabled. This is useful if you have a lot of pets or friends that you play with and they are all in one place. You can select certain ones to enable/disable.
Clear
/fh clear confirm
This command removes all names off of your friends list, making it blank. This cannot be undone. After the command is ran it will give confirmation
List
/fh list advanced and /fh list simple
Advanced:
The advanced list lets you view your friends list and manage your friends using a clickable chat interface--no commands or GUI windows needed. You can just click on the text in chat and it will update accordingly.
It lets you:
- view your friends list
- clear your friends list
- turn the highlighter on/off
- see what color each friend is highlighted in
- delete friends
- disable friends
- toggle between the friend highlighting all entities with that name, or just players
- toggle between the friend having an outline when highlighted, or just having the nametag show through blocks
Simple
This command displays a very simple chat message with the names of your friends.
- you are able to see the color the friend is highlighted in
- click on friend names to toggle them off/on
- toggle the highlighter off and on
Remove
/fh remove [name]
Removes [name] from your friends list.
Settings
A command to manage general mod settings and configuration.
/fh settings display
Similar to the advanced list, this command displays the settings in an interactive chat message.
/fh settings set [setting] [value]
This sets [setting] to the value of [value]. The in-game command suggestions will give you the different settings and which values can be assigned to them.
Toggle
/fh toggle
Turns the highlighter on/off. When the highlighter is off, the mod will not outline any entities through walls or show/color nametags in a modded way. When off, everything functions like vanilla minecraft.
GUI Interface
With the Mod Menu and Cloth Config mods running you can edit your friends list and the mod settings in a GUI window!
By default, the "O" key opens the GUI menu; this can be changed in settings.
