We're out of beta!
This mod is intended to bring Xenoblade gem crafting into Minecraft as faithfully as possible. If you haven’t played Xenoblade Chronicles: 1. You should; 2. A basic (spoiler free) gem crafting guide for the original game should be sufficient (I suggest this one, even for Xenoblade veterans because it has the detailed numbers used, though watching a video would be faster), however; 3. Some features don't correlate directly between games, so the ins-and-outs will be detailed here.
This mod needs Polymorph to function. Don't forget to download that mod as well!
Crystal Gathering
In your world you will now find Ether Deposits, concentrated crystals of the World’s lifeblood. Pure Ether Deposits yield pure crystals which can be used to make a refining device known as an Ether Furnace. These crystals appear where high amounts of their respective elements are present. Normal Ether Deposits spawn in any biome, with no preference between elements, you just have to go mining. As you advance through the game, the crystals you find will be of increasingly higher quality, maxing out at level 5.
Crafting
This is where it gets complicated. To get started, craft an Ether Furnace by surrounding a pure ether crystal of any type with cobblestone.
When you use an Ether Furnace, you will be shown your collection of crystals on the left, and some empty slots on the right.
In order to begin crafting, you need to put in at least two crystals (or cylinders, but we’ll get to that), and can add a maximum of: 1. 8 crystals; 2. 9 attributes; 3. 1 attribute that is over 100%. What these attributes do will be detailed later. Once you have confirmed the crystals you want to use, you will be taken to Turn, Shooter, and Engineer selection.
The Engineer you pick decides the probability of getting each type of flame on a given crafting turn. Gentle flames increase the Cylinder Gauge, which decides how many unrefined attributes you get to keep as cylinders. Medium flames increase the strength of all attributes in the furnace by a little, while Strong flames increase the strength of 1 attribute by a lot. The amount of crafting turns decides how many times you roll for flames. As you level up your crystals, you also increase the ranges of crafting turns you can choose from. Shooters all have special abilities that modify the crafting process (see below). After you confirm, the crafting process occurs with the parameters you selected.
At the end of the crafting, any attributes with strength over 100% become gems. Attributes with strength of 200% become gems of the level above that of the crystals/cylinders used, and ones with 300% crack and become two gems with their attributes at the max for the level above that of the materials used. You can then use your cylinder gauge to save attributes with strength below 100%, using one charge of the gauge for each attribute. The crafting session ends with you being shown the cylinders and gems you have created with the option to discard the ones you don't want.
If you craft a lower level crystal with a higher level one, the resulting gem will be based on the lower crystal's level. For example, crafting a level three crystal and a level four crystal together, and getting heat in the crafting process results in a level four gem.

Medium Bonus |
Qualities grow stronger with a medium flame |
Medium flames give more attribute strength. |
Impatient Shooter |
Gem crafting process happens twice in a row |
Every turn, the flame ability occurs twice. However, there is a 0% chance for fevers |

Applying Gems
Your survival inventory now has a button that gives you access to your crystal/gem inventory. The tab at the top switches between the two. The gem inventory also has a window displaying your worn armor and held weapon, allowing you to apply gems to those which have slots.
Attributes have a maximum value that they can power up abilities by (ex. a level VI Strength Up gem gives 3.0 more damage, and the highest Strength Up each player can have is 4.5 more damage), which is displayed by the combined strength of gems worn turning green on the attribute display below the equipment window. When crafting, different materials have different chances of producing equipment with slots, with the following hierarchy of most > least likely: gold, diamond, stone/leather, wood, iron. Armor can have a maximum of 1 slot while weapons have a maximum of 3.
