Elytra boost mod
This is a simple mod with a simple aim.
That aim being to make the use of elytra in the game more enjoyable for the user.
The mod inserts a key binding which allows the player to boost in the direction their cursor is facing.
The strength of this boost is adjustable using the configuration file and the in-game configuration menu, the mod also adds the functionality of allowing the player to auto equip the elytra after being in the air for the amount of time set in the config. This is able to be toggled on and off and does not affect players in creative mode.
From the 1.12.2 release, this mod can be installed on both the client and the server but you can allow it to work without the server in the config. Previously it was clientside only.
You may use this mod in a modpack with no attribution. Feel free to use the mod as you please, however, please note I am not responsible for your use of the mod.
Please note that for the 1.8.9 edition of the mod you require to also have installed the appropriate version of Backlytra, however, Backlytra mod is required for no other versions.
NOTE: I, Shoelaces (aka Zoey Wilson), am no longer maintaining this project. dragon_evol has written a large expansion to the original mod, and while there are some issues with the update I am no longer maintaining the mod and it makes no sense for the mod to suffer from my lack of improving it so I have allowed dragon_evol ownership over the project. As such I take no responsibility for new updates. (Unless I eventually come back to updating the mod myself, in which case I will remove this notice.)

1.12.2 Update
I'm dragon_evol. Thank Shoelaces for giving me the opportunity to help developing this mod. I've added the following features to the mod to improve flight experience.
Features:
v3.1.4:
- (feature from previous version of Shoelaces) Use B (Default) to have a boost during flight.
- Use W / S (Forward / Backward) to acclerate / decelerate smoothly during flight.
Configurable maximal speed and accleration / deceleration strength.
Sprinting in air to be faster.
- Use R (Default) to start / end elytra flying. (make takeoff and landing easier)
- Client can turn ignoreServer on to use local config. (i.e. speed settings etc.)
Server can turn serverOverride on to override client config. (even client set ignoreServer to true)
- Motion calctulation is now done on client side, improving performance when network is bad.
v3.1.5 add:
- Added support for mod Colytra.
Press R (Default) to begin / end elytra flight now works with Colytra's chestplate-elytra and elytra baubles.
- Added exhaustion when accelerating (no more free momentum!).
Hunger drain rate is configurable, and this feature can also be turned off if you don't want it.

1.16.5 Update
The mechanism is ported from 1.12.2.
You can hold the forward/backward (W/S) key to accelerate/decelerate when fall flying and sprint in the air to get faster.
(1.1 Update) You can gain a strong speed boost in the air via pressing a key (with a cooldown).
You can start/end fall flying via pressing a key.
Acceleration/deceleration/boost will drain hunger as a cost.
Related parameters (how fast you can go, how much hunger it drains) are configurable in "serverconfig" in each world folder (server-side config).
I added CaelusAPI as a dependency, so the functions above should work with any mod adding items or abilities related to fall flying which uses CaelusAPI as well.
1.16.5 version needs CaelusAPI of version 1.16.5-2.1.3.0 or above.
